Tiago Abecassis

Ana Varela

Natural de Lisboa, é licenciada em Engenharia Zootécnica pela Universidade de Évora. Concluiu em 2003 o Engineer degree in Livestock Production na Christelijke Agrarische Hogeschool na Holanda, estagiou na Faculdade de Ciências Animais da Universidade de Varsóvia em Comportamento e Bem-estar Equinos.

Como formadora da Escola Nacional de Equitação, desde 2004, participa nos cursos de Técnicos de Saúde e Educação em Equitação Terapêutica; Pós-graduação em Equitação Com Fins Terapêuticos; Treinador de Equitação (Ajudante de Monitor); Técnico de Maneio Equestre e no curso de Tratador Desbastador de Equinos. É coordenadora dos Cursos de Auxiliar de Equitação Terapêutica; Docentes de Equitação Terapêutica; Acompanhante de Turismo Equestre e Guia de Turismo Equestre.

Desde 2005, proprietária do Centro Hípico de Alcaria, é responsável pela gestão da empresa e desempenha funções de coordenação das actividades de equitação desportiva e equitação com fins terapêuticos, organização de eventos e coordenação das actividades de turismo equestre. É Treinadora de Equitação, Docente de Equitação Terapêutica, Acompanhante de Turismo Equestre, Comissária de Saltos de Obstáculos e Juiz Nacional e Internacional de TREC pela Federação Equestre Portuguesa.

Nuno Bernardes

Licenciou-se em Medicina Veterinária pela Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária de Lisboa da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa em 1999.

Foi interno em Medicina e Cirurgia de Equinos no Hospital Veterinário de Aznallcollar entre 1999 e 2000 sob orientação do Dr. Miguel Valdés, diplomado ACVS e ECVS. Também realizou um externato com o Dr. Lane Easter, diplomado ACVS, em Whitesboro Texas no ano de 2001.

Em 2008 apresentou com sucesso provas de Mestrado em Produção Animal numa pós-graduação organizada pela FMV-UTL e ISA-UTL, suja tese tinha como título "Estudo da influência do exercício, da idade e da presença de lesões de osteocondrose nos níveis séricos de biomarcadores ósseos no cavalo Lusitano linha Alter Real."

No ano de 2010 começou o seu caminho na podiatria equina com a realização de um curso de ferração para proprietários na Escuela de Herradores Sierra Norte em Madrid. Foi nesta mesma escola que em 2014 conclui o curso de técnico ferrador, tendo obtido o diploma oficial reconhecido pela Federação Equestre Francesa.

Ao longo dos anos tem-se dedicado a aprofundar conhecimentos e a criar competências na área da podiatria. Hoje em dia desempenha a sua actividade clínica muito centrada na abordagem a casos de problemas dos cascos. Além disso é forte defensor da partilha de conhecimentos nesta área em todo o sector equino, e também da formação básica e avançada.

Rhys Evans

Dr Rhys Evans is a Professor of Rural Development at the Hogskulen for Landbruk og Bygdeutvikling in Klepp, Jaeren.  For the past fifteen years he has specialized in developing academic ideas in ways which can be used by rural communities to build social, cultural and economic vitality.  Before moving to Norway he worked in Scotland for 13 years where, as a researcher and academic, he worked with the Community Woodland movement and built models of Asset-based Rural Community Development which now are commonplace across the Highlands and Islands.  Since 2008 his research has focused on the human-horse relationship and he is the convenor of the Equine Research Network, an international network of researchers who study various aspects of the subject in 17 countries around the world. He is also a Vice President of the EAAP Horse Commission.

Some of his research includes studying Native Breed horses, horse tourism, equine clusters as development strategies, and the New Equine Economy of the 21^st Century.   He has co-edited the first book on International Horse Tourism, and on the New Equine Economy of the 21^st Century.

António Vicente

António Pedro Andrade Vicente concluiu Doutoramento em Ciências Veterinárias - Especialidade em Produção Animal pela Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária da Universidade de Lisboa em 2015, com nota final de Muito Bom com Distinção. É Professor Adjunto com grau de Doutor na Escola Superior Agrária do Instituto Politécnico de Santarém. Publicou 13 artigos em revistas especializadas e 8 trabalhos em atas de eventos. Possui 58 itens de produção técnica. Participou em 3 eventos no estrangeiro e 43 em Portugal. Orientou 6 trabalhos de conclusão de curso de bacharelato/licenciatura nas áreas das Ciências Veterinárias e Produção Animal. Recebeu 2 prémios e/ou homenagens. Atua nas áreas de Ciências Agrárias com especial ênfase em Genética, Recursos Genéticos Animais, Equinicultura e Suinicultura. Nas suas atividades profissionais interagiu com 58 colaboradores em co-autorias de trabalhos científicos.

Membro da Ordem dos Engenheiros, Membro fundador e Secretário da Sociedade Portuguesa de Recursos Genéticos Animais. Membro do Grupo de Trabalho de Investigação em Equídeos; Juiz internacional de Equitação de Trabalho e da Raça Lusitana. Juiz Nacional Nível 3 de Dressage. Consultor Técnico de Coudelarias.

Ana Sofia Santos

Natural de Lisboa, Ana Sofia Santos é Professora Auxiliar da Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama em Coimbra. Licenciada em Engenharia Zootécnica pela UTAD, com Mestrado em Produção Animal, pela Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária de Lisboa, concluiu em 2012 o seu Doutoramento em Ciência Animal na área da Nutrição Equina na UTAD. Tem desenvolvido investigação na área da produção equina no geral, nutrição e alimentação de cavalos em particular, sendo autora de diversos artigos científicos e comunicações em congressos científicos nacionais e internacionais. A sua área de especialização é a de produção equina, nutrição equina em particular.

É Professora na Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama (EUVG) desde 2004, tendo assumido os cargos de Vice-diretorA do Departamento de Medicina Veterinária da EUVG de 2012 a 2013, e o cargo de Diretora do DMV entre 2013 e 2014. Membro integrado do Centro de Investigação e de Tecnologias Agro-Ambientais e Biológicas (CITAB-UTAD) desde 2015.

No que à docência se refere, tem lecionado, desde 2000, em áreas como Nutrição Animal, Produção Animal e Agricultura Geral, em cursos de licenciatura, mestrado e mestrado integrado.

É atualmente Presidente da Horse Commission da Federação Europeia de Zootecnia (EAAP).

Andrea Ellis

Dr Andrea D. Ellis is a renowned equine scientist, who has had horses in her blood from an early age both as an artist and scientist. She freely admits that she occasionally missed her first two school lessons and secretly went to see the training sessions at the Spanish Horse Riding School near her home in Vienna.Andrea's early research focused on food intake behaviour and nutrient digestion in horses and sheep, and set her on a path of becoming a specialist in equine nutrition and behaviour. After working as a Scientific Researcher at the Research Institute for Applied Husbandry, Wageningen University Research, The Netherlands, for four years, she joined Nottingham Trent University as Senior Lecturer, where she led the design of the MSc in Equine Health and Welfare, and was Programme Leader of this course.Andrea now runs her own company UNEQUI Science and Creativity. She works as a nutrition and behaviour as well as academic consultant. Andrea is passionate about animal nutrition and welfare, good science and biology education and works/worked as external examiner, course validator, supervisor and guest lecturer for a wide range of institutions (ANIVADO, University of Edinburgh, Royal Agricultural University, Anglia Ruskin University, Northampton University, BPP University, Portsmouth University and others) as well as doing her consultancy work and collaborative research projects. Andrea is also a member of the Royal Society of Biology and an Assessor for their Advanced Degree Accreditation Scheme. UNEQUI's creativity arm encompasses art, poster design, scientific illustrations and even event photography (e.g. Equine Health and Nutrition Congress 2015).'I am passionate about animal welfare and good science education.
